General, cross-subject nonfiction prizes not restricted to a specific subject, such as the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction or the National Book Award for Nonfiction. These represent the broadest and most prestigious recognition a nonfiction book can receive.

The single leading award within a specific nonfiction subject, such as the Pulitzer Prize for Biography or the Pulitzer Prize for History. The top honor subject insiders would recognize, but scoped to one subject rather than nonfiction as a whole.

Smaller-circulation, fan-voted, or sub-category awards. Real recognitions, but easier for a single book to accumulate several of via overlapping fan communities honoring the same underlying achievement.
